Word Street Programming
What is Word Street?
- a drop-in tutoring and creative writing facility, free to youth, ages 7-18.
- one on one tutoring and instruction available for projects related to school assignments or independent literary projects. These projects and assignments include, but are not limited to:
- independent creative writing projects (poetry, fiction, personal essay, scriptwriting).
- tutoring for work assigned by classroom teachers (critical essays, creative assignments, reading comprehension and reader response, open-ended response, research papers, book reports, oral presentation projects, grammar, vocabulary, business letters, and cross-curricular assignments related to arts in communication).
- SAT preparation and general vocabulary acquisition.
- MCAS preparation.
- College application essays.
- ELL instruction.
- Reading instruction.
- Business letter writing and learning intelligent and deliberate activism.
- Job application help and mentoring; interview skills.
- Book publishing.
- Word processing skills.
- Oral communication instruction.
- a library of appropriate literature to encourage language acquisition, reading comprehension, and reading for enjoyment.
- FREE creative writing workshops for students 7-18.
- Writing workshops for adults.
- a team of versatile tutors who will be prepared to provide help to teachers in all public and private schools in Berkshire County, during school hours, at no cost.
- a scholarship fund for students in Pittsfield and Berkshire County.
- opportunities for students to showcase their skills at public venues and local access television.
- a liaison between students and creative arts internship opportunities.
